What are wrinkles?
The number and depth of wrinkles can be a tell tale sign of how old you are. They can be fine lines or deep seated ones.
Wrinkles are generally formed when the skin stops collagen and elastin production. Usually between 30 -35 years of age. This usually starts around the eye area first because is it the thinnest skin area.
At the Dermis layer of the skin it starts to get drier, loses elasticity, gets thinner and capillaries start to show through. Skin can also start to tear or bruise more as we age. Collagen and Elastin are the 2 important proteins the skin produces at this layer. Collagen gives strength to the skin while elastin gives elasticity and stretch. UV will break down collagen production as well as break down the elastic fibers in the cells.
The Subcutaneous layer of the skin starts to lose the fat pads which causes the skin to sag. The fat at this layer makes the skin look plump, full and soft. Which gives a more youthful appearance. It also slows down the oil production which can make the skin look drier.
Stress is another thing which produces cortisol and will break down collagen.
Other causes of wrinkles and ageing are smoking, sun tanning, lack of sleep, climate, diet, alcohol and facial expression. More smiling and less frowning.

Dr Kathy Field M.D and Dr Katie Rodan M.D said. “The best wrinkle is the one you never get. Decide today how you want to look tomorrow. Treat your skin before wrinkles make an unwanted appearance on your face. Here’s our spin on the old saying: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of filler”
When we understand how skin works, we can manage how our skin can look and feel. As a matter of fact, our skins destiny is in our hands but on the other hand, we tend to ignore the most important organ in our body. Our skin! Therefore, what we put into our bodies reflect how we look and feel. For this reason we need to take responsibility for our body and skin. As a result, people will never be able to guess how old we really are.
